This table shows the number of visitors in millions to the UK from 1975 to 1998 and classifies them into two categorises according to the purpose of the visit and the nationalities of visitors.
Over the period between 1975 and 1987 the number of visitors increased by about 6 million and by the end of the consecutive decade the number increased by about 1o million.
The number of visits for leisure purpose represented about three -quarters of the total visits along the period between 1987 and 1998 while the rest visits were for business purpose.
Moving on to the second category, The data show that the Western European visitors were the predominant nationalities who came to the UK with more than 60% ,while the North American and other nationalities represented about 40 %of population .
The figure of the period suggest that there was upward trend in the number of visitors which started to level out in 1996 and the majority of visitors according to the previous classification were from west Europe and they came for Leisure ;From this evidence we can conclude that there might be overlapping between both categories.
